LEXINGTON, Kentucky, Oct.29, 2014–The United States Equestrian Federation banned the use of helmet cameras in licensed or endorsed competitions while awaiting a report from an “independent expert.”
The ban effective immediately, came in a one-sentence news release: “Effective immediately and until further notice, the use of helmet cameras is prohibited at all USEF licensed and/or endorsed competitions pending the completion of an independent expert report on the safety of helmet cameras.”
The federation did not explain the reason for the ban but it comes after they were prohibited at Fair Hill eventing course in Maryland and in Britain.
The use of cameras in helmets and attached to other pieces of equipment in a wide range of sports and other activities has exploded in recent years with the development of the small, high resolution devices.
The “independent expert” was not identified.
