RHEINBERG, Germany, Oct. 30–Isabell Werth gave birth to a baby boy Friday, Eurodressage.com reported.

Mother and baby–named Frederic–were doing well, Eurodressage said.

The baby reportedly weighed 7.7 lb. (3.521 kg.) and was 20 ins. (51 cm) tall.

Isabell, who turned 40 earlier this year, reported just three days ago that she had stopped rdiing while awaiting the birth of the child. Her partner is Wolfgang Urban.

The world’s former No. 1 dressage rider–she is still ranked second despite not having competed for points for several months–has won five Olympic gold medals.

While placing motherhood as her most important role, Werth has made it clear she intends to return to the top of dressage.

Her “large aim.” she has said, is the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Kentucky.

“I will work as hard as necessary to return to the pinnacle of the sport,” she said.
