WELLINGTON, Florida, Dec. 19–Lisa Wilcox, U.S. Olympic and World Equestrian Games medalist, will continue to compete the two Ingred Lin-owned Lusitano stallions she had been training toward competing at the WEG in Kentucky next year.

The Lusitano stallions, Queba HM and Quemacho HI, both aged 13, have been owned by Ingred Lin, who died Thursday, Dec. 17 after a long battle with breast cancer.

Ingred, who was 54, had competed the horses with success at FEI level at national shows and U.S. regional championships, but with a recurrence of her cancer she turned both horses over to Lisa.

Lisa returned to the United States in 2006 after 12 years in Europe. Riding the stallion Relevant, she won team silver at the 2002 WEG in Jerez, Spain, individual silver at the open European Championships in 2003 and team bronze at the 2004 Athens Olympics. She had been ranked as high as No. 2 on the FEI Rider Rankings.

She is competing both stallions at Grand Prix, but is further along with Queba, a striking steel gray 16.2-hand (168cm) stallion with gray/platinum mane and tail.

“I’ve never been on another horse that can piaffe or passage like he does,” Lisa said of Queba.

She won the Grand Prix Freestyle on Queba at a national competition just four days before Ingred died. The music the pair rode to was by Antonin Dvořák that had been selected by Ingred, who was in the hospital.

“We talked about me training and competing the horses through the qualifying shows for the World Games in Kentucky, and possibly through the 2012 Olympics in London,” she told dressage-news.com.

“She took so much pleasure in these two magnificent horses. I think of her every time I ride them.

“Any success we enjoy will be a touching legacy to a wonderful person.”

Lisa also trains and competes horses for Joan and Kenny Sims’ Highlife Farms, a stallion station in Orlando, Florida. Among the horses she is training are Der Euro, a 1998 Oldenburg gelding (Don Schufro/Waldroeschen/Wanderer), winner of the 2002 Bundeschampionate, and his full brother, Der Dollar, a 2003 Oldenburg stallion.

Highlife Farms in Orlando is up for sale but the Sims own property in Virginia and have made it known they will maintain their breeding operation and spend more time in Wellington during the winter circuit.
